Alexander Borovsky plays Liszt : 12 Transcendental Etudes Alexander Borovsky (Aleksandr Kirilovich Borovski) (Borowsky) (March 8, 1889 - April 27, 1968) was born in Mitau, Latvia. His first teacher was his mother, a pupil of Vasili Safonov, the great Russian pianist. Later on he studied under Anna Essipova, the pupil and wife of Leschetitzky. Other her pupils included Leonid Kreutzer, Simon Barere, Sergei Prokofiev, Alfred Mirovitch, Igance Hilsberg, and Lev Pouishnov. Borovsky completed his studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, from which he graduated in 1912 with a gold medal and the Anton Rubinstein prize. In 1915 he was invited to lead a master class at the Moscow Conservatory. After leaving Russia in 1920, Borovsky embarked on a series of concert tours, which took him to all parts of the globe. At the same time he began to record some of the significant works of Bach and Liszt, and he was the first to record Bach's 30 Inventions and all of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies.Borovsky settled in this country in 1941. On his concert tours he played under many famous conductors, such as Serge Koussevitzky, Bruno Walter, Wilhelm Furtwaengler, Sir Henry Wood, Paul Paray, Vladimir Golschman, Pierre Monteux, Erich Kleiber, John Barbirolli and others.
