Such a statement should be no surprise, but it is worth recalling that Mozart’s place in the pianistic firmament was hardly as secure as assumed, at the beginning of the twentieth century. To have a trove of Mozart performances by a master pianist grounded in the esthetics of that time is a rare blessing.
